I’ve been listening to and reading a lot of Alan Watt’s podcasts and books, and I’m loving all of it. I particularly love his analogy of life and music. He compares music to life in the sense that life isn’t a journey. You’re not working to arrive at a destination. Live is about fulfillment and enjoyment, like music. You play music, not work music. And this concept can be applied to life.

It’s an interesting change in perspective when normally a lot of motivational lines tell us that we should “focus on the journey, not the destination”. But how about just enjoying it in general? We should love the process and not focus too much on the progress and rate of success or failure. We should love the activity and not focus on improvement or deterioration. There is a happiness to everything as long as that’s what we’re seeking. Instead of putting the focus on things that give us unnecessary pressure or stress, we should focus on what makes us feel our best and enjoying what is in front of us.
